The Republic of China Centennial Grand Countdown
Multi-media performance event on New Years Eve

Taipei, Taiwan

December 31, 2010

A large-scale artistic performance took place on a water stage at Wish Fountain in Dajia Riverside Park, and on the Keelung River in Taipei on December 31, 2010, starting at 22:30. The performance extended into the midnight hour when the rest of Taipei City was lit with a spectacular fireworks show. The event was broadcast globally throughout Asia, the Americas, Europe, and Africa.

The program juxtaposed artistry and technology, amateur and professional performers, water and fire, serenity and thundering percussion, calligraphy and abstract imagery, poetics and raw energies, and aboriginal music and contemporary compositions, showcasing a multifaceted cultural landscape. Digital projections on water screens were a principal feature in which performers interacted with ethereal moving images.

Ma was a member of the core creative team, artistic director of multimedia imaging, and artistic supervisor of the international broadcast.
