Cry Joy Park - Lille Edition
Laser-cut flash-spun non-woven HDPE garden, pigment
Musee de l'Hospice Comtesse
May 19 - September 27, 2021
The Cry Joy Park black and white garden installations have been interpreted in multiple ways through numerous exhibitions around the world. Installed at Musee de l'Hospice Comtesse, the gardens overtake a space that was once devoted to health.
Cry Joy Park - Lille Edition remarks upon the duality of the Covid-19 pandemic — a time of loss and turmoil while simultaneously a time of healing and resurgence. Installed in a former-hospital-turned-museum, the juxtaposition between the black and white gardens gives the viewer space to recognize the hope that is revealing itself in a time of chaos.
Where there is room for new hope to emerge, there is also space for meditation. As the white garden cascades down to the floor, the public is invited to contribute to the white garden by cutting into the designated section, as an act of meditation towards healing in this time of chaos and regrowth.
